[2004] - Double-A All-Star C, Southern League All-Star C [2006] - NL Rookie of the Year (Voting Rank: # 9) |
|
An excellent looking prospect. Outstanding hitter with a keen eye of the strike zone. Put up some gaudy numbers in half a season in Pacific League. .337BA, 19 HR, 58 RBI. Fully expected to have a chance at the opening day catcher's spot for the Marlins, due to the trade of Paul Lo Duca. If given the chance, he is a potential Rookie of the Year candidate. Only been catching for two full years. Can play four positions and has deceptive speed for someone 6'2' and 230 pounds. Played alongside current Marlins, Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera in Double A Carolina where he owns the second longest HR ever hit, estimated at 510 feet. He resides in Florence, Alabama with his wife Ginger. Had an exceptional career at the University of North Alabama, setting numerous single game and career marks. Drafted in the 17th round of the 2000 draft. Selected for the Triple-A All-Star Game, and the 2005 Futures Game, but was called up to the Marlins prior to both games. Was an all-state performer in basketball and baseball in high school. He is also an avid fisherman and golfer in the off-season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
