LeCroy was a high draft pick out of high school in 1994 but elected to sign with Clemson instead. LeCroy did nothing to hurt his stock while playing for the Tigers as after his 3 seasons at the University, he was a 1st round draft pick (50th overall) by the Minnesota Twins in 1997. LeCroy is a catcher by trade but he can also play first base but he is more suited to being a dh or a pinch hitter. He is a very good hitter with excellent power but he is a very slow runner with a weak arm, especially for the catching position. Baserunners stole 29 out of 34 bases against LeCroy in his last 49 games behind the plate. LeCroy hustles well and he is a very good component to any team and he could see himself in a full-time designated hitter role if he can hit consistently. The more he plays the better he tends to hit and is prone to extended slumps when he is inactive, according to scouting reports. He was a very good athlete in high school and was all-state in baseball for four years while also earning all-state in football for his senior year. He also played tennis. Notes: Named catcher on Baseball America's Freshman All-American team in 1995...Won a bronze medal for the United States at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics...Majored in Elementary education at Clemson. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
