Falcone had a decent major league career after being a 1st round pick (3rd overall) by the Giants in 1973. After originally being drafted out of Lafayette high school in Brooklyn by the Twins, he elected to attend Community College in New York before the Giants selected him the following year. Falcone put up some great numbers in his first 2 years in the minor leagues and it earned him a spot in the Giants rotation for the 1975 season where he went 12-11 with a 4.17 era. With his stock high, he was sent to the Cardinals for the 1976 season and won another 12 games with the Cardinals. The next 8 years of Falcone's career were mediocre at best. He was inconsistent, gave up lots of home runs and his strikeouts progressively decreased over the years. He was also erratic at times and some say he became a thrower rather than a pitcher. Falcone, a born-again christian, tied a major league record on May 1, 1980 against the Phillies when he struck out the first 6 batters that he faced. Falcone did have a great arm and possessed a good knuckle-curve. He went through some injuries in the late 70s and while playing on poor teams, he never really got the opportunity to take his career to the next level. Falcone did not ever play on a playoff team. Notes: Cousin of Joe Pignatano...Pitched 2 3-hitters during his career...In 1989, he played for the Orlando Juice of the Senior Professional Baseball Association | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
