A native Texan, born and raised in Houston, currently residing in Cypress,Texas...Graduated from Cypress Falls High School (2002), Houston,Texas...As a two-way (ss/rhp) prepster at Cypress Falls High , Everts was selected to Baseball America's All-American 1st Team as Pitcher, he also was selected All-State, All-Greater Houston and All-District as a 17yr.old senior at Cypress Falls High...Everts went 9-3 with a 0.73 ERA and a career high 157 Strikeouts in 81 innings... pitched for the U.S. National Youth team in 2000, earning a gold medal at the Pan American Championships in Monterrey, Mexico... Everts was selected fifth overall in the 2002 MLB Draft by the Montreal Expos as a pitcher, his high school teammate, Scott Kazmir was also selected in the first round, 15th to the Mets, making them only the fourth pair of high school teammates to be selected in the first round of MLB draft history. Professional Career: Signing an '03 contract, At 18 yrs of old Everts started his professonal career in Spring Training of 2003 with the MLB Expos and then was sent to the minor league affiliate SS Vermont Expos, he rapidily moved up the propect chart and became the organizationals top prospect in 2003 and 2004, In 2003 reciaseving high marks with his 80 plus plus curveball the organization gave him honors as top prospect in 2003. In 2004, Everts continued to climb the organizational ladder receiving honors with the Savannah Sandgnats low A affiliate, going 7-3, 2.49 ERA, posting a career high 103 K, 21 BB, 90.1 IP, OPP BA .206....went on to be selected to the South Atlantic League Allstar Team and then to the MLB Futures All-Star Team held at Minute-Maid Park in Houston, Texas and was given organizational marks as top prospect with the best changeup and promoted to the Florida State league, Brevard County Manatees High A affiliate. At the end of the 2004 season, Everts was shut down with elbow soreness, learning later he would have Tommy John surgery in Sept. After months of rehab he was back quickly into action at the beginning of 2005, and continued to battle through the recovery process with limited pitch counts starting with the Gulf Coast Nationals, affiliate of the Washington Nationals finishing the season with the SS Vermont Expos. Everts has began the 2006 season with the Potomac Nationals High A team, and continues to work his way back to previous form. |
