Trivia and Player Notes

Participated in the 1999 Futures Game during All-Star Weekend, playing for the United states team.

After losing his control during the 2000 playoffs, Ankiel's pitching career began to unravel. He put up phenomenal numbers in 2001 at the Rookie Level but could not translate that to the major leagues.

In the spring of 2005, Ankiel officially announced that he was returning to the minor leagues in an attempt to make it back to the majors as an outfielder. He went on to hit 21 homers in just over 300 at bats, driving in 75 in the process.
