Baseball TermDescription
In-between hopA batted or thrown ball at a fielder where the hop is neither far nor close and is in a zone where it is difficult to predict how high it will bounce with little reaction time available.
InfieldThe area of the field covered by the 4 infielders (1B,2B,SS,3B). The area usually expands to a white line that is several feet behind the base paths.
Infield FlyWith runners on 1st and 2nd or bases loaded with less than 2 out A popup in or near the infield that is catchable results in the batter being automatically out. The reason is to prevent the fielder from deliberately dropping the ball to get a double-play on a batter who is unable to run due to the ball being in the air and less than 2 outs.
Instant ReplayIf a team thinks the umpire got a call wrong (non balls-strikes), they may call for an instant replay in which a team at headquarters will review the play via camera angles and look for evidence to overturn the original call. If a team is wrong, they lose their replay privileges for the game.
Intentional WalksWhen the pitcher deliberately walks the batter for strategic purposes
