'C' Baseball Terminology

Can of cornAn easy fly ball
Caught lookingStriking out on a third strike as judged by the umpire, without swinging, usually insinuating that the player was tricked by the pitch and/or unprepared for its location
Charge the moundWhen a batter is hit by a pitch and decides to run after the pitcher in retaliation. He will be ejected from the game automatically and most likely suspended.
Check SwingA batter who starts to swing at the pitch but holds back on the swing as he changes his decision. If he goes past the plate, it is considered a swing. It is often difficult to tell in real-time and an appeal to a base umpire usually results in a seemingly random decision though likely well-meaning
Chin MusicA fastball thrown up and in, near the batter's head.
ChopperA ball hit with a high bounce. Named since the illusion is that the batter chopped the ball into the ground.
Clean up HitterThe hitter in the 4th slot of the batting lineup, who is usually one of the team's better hitters who can clean the bases of runners with an extra base hit
Closed stanceA batter whose front foot is decisively closer to the plate than his back foot
CloserAn unofficial position but generally an official role annointed to a relief pitcher on the pitching staff. The Closer is considered the best reliever and used to close out games in the 9th inning. There is debate on when a closer should be used but historically, the closer has been used as the last pitcher for a team in a game where they are winning.
ClubhouseThe baseball locker room usually located down a tunnel from the dugout.
Color commentatorAs part of a broadcast team, there is normally a player who adds insight to the description provided by the broadcaster. Usually a former player who can provide more detal on a play that had just occurred.
Contact HitterA term used for a hitter who has a tendency to make contact when swinging and often puts the ball in play
ContenderA team considered to have a chance to make the Playoffs or win the Championship.
Corked batThe process of putting a rubber compound in the center of a bat to produce more bounce with the intention of hitting the ball further. It is subject to penalty if discovered
CutoffThrows from the outfield have a designated fielder set to cut the ball. (Catch the ball). Outfielders are usually asked to hit the cutoff man where the cutoff man will then relay the throw either to the same destination or a new one, depending on the call from behind him by a player with a better view of the play. Te cutoff can also improve the speed of the throw by reducing the distance required to throw for the outfielder.
CycleHitting for the cycle is a batting feat where the batter hits at least 1 single,double,triple and home run in a game.
