Detailed Inclusion Rules for Baseball People and Teams
There are more than 150,000 pages for baseball people on the site and though at times the criteria for inclusion might seem random, we can assure you there is a method to this madness.
Major League Baseball Players
All are included since 1871. Most have basic biographical information and a high% have High School
and College information
Major League Coaches
that are known and documented have a page. If they played MLB (or recent minors/college) they will have bio info, otherwise, might only have position listed as Coach.
players since the beginning of the MLB Entry Draft (1965) will have their own page. Many of these players qualify elsewhere for inclusion but there are a significant amount of drafted players who appear on this site ONLY because they were drafted. Either they did not sign and attended a non-Div I college or maybe they were drafted in the 1960s and 1970s and their Minor League stats are prior to 1977.
Minor League Players
Since 1977. Biographical information for all players
if publicly available somewhere. In other words, we tried! Updated yearly. All players with at least 1 game in the minors since the lowest minor season.
Minor League Personnel
and hitting/pitching coaches
. All managers/coaches will have their own page with Job history includes.
Only NCAA Division I players
(Approx 300 schools per year) since 2002 will have a page with their career college history included. For these players, if they also played in another college division
, and we have captured that team's stats, their stats will be linked with their Division I stats. Other College Players not playing DIV I in 2002 or later (DIV I < 2002 or Other College Divisions) will not have their own page unless they meet inclusion criteria somewhere else (Drafted, Coach etc). Their stats and name, however, may appear on the site under team stats.
All NCAA Division I Head Coaches
and paid assistant coaches
will have their own page whether they meet criteria anywhere else.
Independent League Players
Since 1993, players for any professional unaffiliated leagues (Indy Leagues
) that we capture will have their own player page with Biographical information if available.
Independent League Coaches
If coach list was available for a particular team, they will be given their own player page if not already meeting inclusion criteria somewhere else.
Outside of General Managers
, other team personnel not already meeting inclusion criteria will not be given their own page. For example, a Scouting Director hired who happened to play Division 2 College will not be listed on the site.
since the 1950s will all have their own page.
All Players have played in the Japanese Nippon Professional Baseball Leagues
Though the Mexican League
is considered to be a "AAA" Level league, its not an official affiliated minor league and does not have the same inclusion rules as the Minor League data. Mexican league stats and players are included in full since 2000.
are listed in 2 ways. There are baseball people with "Scout" listed as their job and this is listed on player and team pages. Also, there is a separate Scouts project to identify the signing scout for each Draft Pick signing in our Draft database. And so the 2 Scout listings may not be lined up. For example, you may see Scout Joe Smitty is listed next to a player as a signing scout but he may not be listed as a scout for that organization for that season.
There might be other players
added to the database that don't meet the criteria above. They may be of players asking to be added while donating a little to help the site. There may be other players also added by TBC but are definitely the exception and not the rule.
